The project of the papyri of Erlangen

Description of the collection

The papyri of Erlangen are held by Dept. III: Scripts and Graphical collection of the University library of Erlangen-Nuremberg. The collection contains 142 objects.

In cooperation with the University library of Erlangen-Nuremberg , the University library of Leipzig , their Papyrus Portal and the Chair for Classic Philology I of the University Würzburg the collection is now publicly available as database including catalog data and pictures within the Papyrus portal.

The University Erlangen-Nuremberg is also responsible for the partial new vitrifaction and restoration (done by J. Graf, Leipzig) and does the digitization itself. The cataloguing is done by H. Essler, Würzburg, the integration into the Papyrus Portal and the technical treatment by the University library of Leipzig (Prof. Dr. R. Scholl) and the Computer Center of the University of Leipzig (J. Kupferschmidt).
